Dick Stout has participated in the metal detecting pastime for over twenty years, and now resides in Rowlett, Texas with his wife Fay. In 1984 he founded and became the first president of the Federation of Metal Detector & Archaeological Clubs, an organisation that now represents over 175 metal detecting clubs across the United States. During his tenure as president, he travelled extensively, promoting the pastime, and representing both the hobbyists and the metal detector manufacturers at congressional committee hearings in Washington DC.
Dick has written many articles for various treasure hunting publications, and is currently a contributing editor for Western and Eastern Treasure magazine, published by Peoples publishing company in Mercer Island, Washington. His first book, Metal Detecting - The Hobby (also published by White's Electronics), was published in April of 1993, and continues to be a best seller.
