Barry M. Marsden is a retired lecturer in history and archaeology, who has also taught extramural courses on Prehistoric and Roman Britain for various universities and the Workers Educational Association over many years. One of his major interests is the history of archaeology in Britain, and his 'The Early Barrow Diggers' (Tempus 1999) is the standard work on the subject. He holds a lifetime interest in military aviation, especially RAF fighter operations in the Second World War, and is also an expert on electric transport, having researched the histories of several tram and trolleybus systems in his native Derbyshire. He has written nearly 20 books and numerous articles. He has been a Fellow of the Society of Antiquaries of London for over 20 years, and is a member of the institute of Field Archaeologists.
